Q: How do I configure my Windows XP Firewall?

Answer: If you have Service Pack 2 installed on your computer, most likely it has enabled the personal firewall setting on your Internet connection. This setting has effectively blocked the communication between our website and your SkyCaddie.

Checking for Windows XP Service Pack 2:

  1. Click on the “Start” button located on the lower left hand corner of your Windows desktop.
  2. Right-click on the "My Computer" icon.
  3. Select “Properties” from the shortcut menu.
  4. Click on the “General Tab” located at the top of the "System Properties Window".
  5. You should now be able to view your current version of Windows and the current service pack that is installed. If Service Pack 2 has been installed, it most likely has enabled the personal firewall on your Internet Connection.
To allow your SkyCaddie to work properly with Windows Firewall:
  1. Click "Start" located in the lower left-hand corner of your Windows desktop.
  2. Select "Control Panel."
  3. Select "Windows Firewall"
  4. Select the "Exceptions" tab.
  5. Click on the "Add Program" button.
  6. Select the blocked SkyCaddie program. (SkyCaddie Desktop.exe.)
  7. Click the "OK" button.
  8. Close all windows.
  9. Restart your windows.
Q: How do I set up my firewall to allow the SkyCaddie to DirectConnect?
Answer: It is good to have a firewall in place, especially if you are on a high-speed broadband Internet connection. However, when the firewall is on and you are trying to use our website, it may block our data transfer. This will cause the "DirectConnect" to fail. Your firewall will need to be set up to the following program to access the web: "SkyCaddie Desktop exe". For detailed help regarding firewall settings, please see the Firewall Help page.
Q: What is "DirectConnect" and how do I "DirectConnect" to my SkyCaddie.

Answer: "DirectConnect" is a service provided to SkyCaddie owners. "DirectConnect" allows you to automatically login to your registered SkyCaddie account, also known as you "My SkyCaddie" page. These buttons are loacted throughout the SkyGolf website for your convenience. Before you click the "DirectConnect" button:

  1. Confirm that you have correctly connected your SkyCaddie to your computer.
  2. Turn on your SkyCaddie
Q: I clicked on "DirectConnect" and nothing happened. What do I need to do?

Answer: If you can no longer perform a "DirectConnect," it may be due to recent changes made on your computer. Here is a troubleshooting checklist.

  1. Have you installed any software recently? Sometimes conflicts are caused when new software overwrites files or settings on your system.
  2. Have you installed or changed settings in any firewall or antivirus software? This type of software program may block communication with our website. Your firewall program will need to be configured to allow communication with our site. Visit the firewall help page for more details.
  3. Do you have anything that might be trying to use the port that your SkyCaddie is plugged into? (i.e. Palm HotSync, Power Management, ect.) In order to give the SkyCaddie access, these will have to be turned off or removed.
  4. Is there a pop-up blocker installed on your computer that may be interfering? Pop-up blockers may block the communication between our website and your computer. Please turn off or configure your pop-up blocker program for use with the SkyGolf website.
  5. What is the status of your internet connection? Check your Internet connection. You may want to re-try the website after 15-30 minutes.
  6. Are you using our SkyCaddie Desktop? If not, we highly recommend downloading our FREE “SkyCaddie Desktop Browser” that is optimized for use with your SkyCaddie.
